The undisputed culinary champion of the city: ARZAK

ARZAK restaurant
Avda. Alcalde Jose Elosegui, 273
20015 Donostia / San Sebastian
Tel: 943 278 465 / 943 285 593 - fax: 943 272 753

Come here for Basque inspired culinary creativity, a landmark for decades.

There's few better opportunities for a gourmand than wandering the charming streets of the Casco Viejo of San Sebastian, pausing for a glass of Txacoli, the distinctive young, frizzy wine of the region, while perusing the dozens of pintchos (a type of tapa) on offer at each establishment. These are not humble tapas, but delicious and well conceived little creations in a stunning and mouthwatering variety.

Some recommended bars for pintchos include:

Bar Etxaniz

Fermin Calbeton, 24

Tel 943 42 62 59

A simple stand-up bar offers fresh home-cooked pinchos with good humour

San Sebastian Hotels: 2 Grande Dames to Choose From

Our favorite hotel in San Sebastian is not the famous Maria Cristina, but the Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra, a 4-star characterful property smack dab on the beach. The Londres lacks the somewhat stuffy elegance of the Maria Cristina, while still being a Grande Dame nonetheless. Zubieta 2, 20007 San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa) · Tlf. +34 943 44 07 70 - Fax. +34 943 44 04 91

The Hotel Maria Cristina, which currently belongs to the Starwood Luxury Collecction, has a somewhat inferior location, but has grandeur and service worthy of tis 5 stars.

The city with the highest concentration of Michelin stars in the world beckons you  . . .
